By Sera-Tina Talea in collaboration with Eco Hub Aber

As part of Carers’ Week; Repair Cafe Wales are working alongside Eco Hub Aber and are taking over the Aberystwyth bandstand on Saturday 10th June between 11am and 1pm to provide a space to share knowledge and fix small electrical items, electronics, mechanical goods, bikes, clothing and IT equipment and minor jewellery repairs.

Come and meet our volunteer repair team and we’ll assess your broken item and signpost you to the appropriate fixer who can help assess them.

Refreshments are available whilst you wait. Come and save by breathing life back into your items. Show them some love and prolong their life. Keep them out of the landfill.

Help your pockets and the planet.

At the event you could learn how to maintain your broken items.

By recording items which cannot be fixed, we will lobby companies, as part of the Global Right to Repair Movement, to make their items repairable when redesigning their products.

PAT testing will also be undertaken on all electrical items to ensure the safety of repairs.

Let us continue to move away from a throwaway economy and into a sustainable society.

Or to find out more about why the repair cafe movement is needed:

Why should you repair your goods?

  1. By repairing them you are extending their lifecycle.
  2. You are reducing the energy cost required to scrap or recycle those goods.
  3. You are reducing the costs to the planet’s ecosystems.
  4. You are changing the date of Earth Overshoot day 2024 for the better
  5. and are voting with action against maintaining the throwaway economy.

I know I have some dungarees and a phone charger that I’ll be bringing along.
